Environmental Policy

1. Purpose
Next Step Medical Pty Ltd aspiration is to provide environmentally responsible products and services that meet the present and future needs and expectations of both our clients, the community and relevant Regulatory and Statutory requirements.
This policy:
Outlines our responsibilities under the:

  • Climate Change Act 2022;
  • Relevant State or Territory Safe Work Act;
  • Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care Advisories and Clinical Care Standards;
  • National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards;
  • Shows how we will address environmental management and control risks; and
  • Applies to all states and territories that our business operates.

2. Scope Statement
The Environmental Policy is established by the Management Team to undertake operations in an environmentally responsible manner so that we carefully plan and execute work in order to minimise any impact on the environment including the prevention of pollution.

It applies to all staff, contractors, products, services and joint ventures under our operational control.

3. Our Commitment
To conduct our business in a way that minimises the effects on the environment to as low as reasonably practical, we will:

  • Maintain and continually improve an effective Environmental Management System (EMS) complying with International Standard ISO 14001;
  • Meet or exceed all the environmental legislation that relates to our business operations;
  • Achieve and maintain a level of environmental responsibility which enhances the businesses reputation with clients;
  • Plan for and implement appropriate clinical governance systems, environmental management and control strategies;
  • Use a risk management framework when considering the implementation of environmental management initiatives to determine individual and collective risk(s)
    in specific situations, procedures or programs and inform management options and priorities to reduce the risk where the environment is relevant;
  • Environmental control activities and risks are included in our risk register;
  • Source, select, use and promote an environmentally conscious product range to minimise the environmental impact including toxic emissions throughout our
    services;
  • Minimise waste by evaluating operations and ensuring they are as efficient as
    possible;
  • Actively promote recycling both internally and amongst our clients and suppliers;
  • Provide staff with education and training during induction and on an ongoing basis on environmental management in line with their duties;
  • Actively manage a “Training and Skills” register for ongoing staff roles, qualifications, skills and training requirements; and
  • Patients and visitors are provided the necessary information and education to ensure our environmental management requirements are met.

4. Non-Compliance and Disciplinary Measures Conduct which breaches this policy is unacceptable.

Depending on the severity and circumstances, breaches of this policy may lead to:

  • The requirement to provide an apology (written or verbal);
  • A formal warning;
  • A performance improvement plan;
  • A requirement to attend training and/or counselling;
  • Dismissal; and
  • For workers who fail to meet these standards, termination of contract.

5. Effective Date
This policy is effective as of 20th January 2025 and shall be formally reviewed annually and updated in consultation with internal and external stakeholders,  ensuring alignment with any legislative amendments.
